How many meters of fabric do I need?

Our guides to measuring for curtains and measuring for blinds can help you to work out how much fabric you will need for curtain and blind projects. If you need further help with this, or would like advice on fabric requirements for any other interior project, please contact us.

Is my fabric suitable for upholstery?

Most of the fabrics within our range are suitable for upholstery, however, some are only suitable for use as drapery. Please look within the product details section of the individual fabric to view its usability and individual performance.

Fabric used for upholstery needs to meet the appropriate fire regulations and will need to be used with a fire-retardant barrier cloth or a flame-retardant treatment. It is the customer’s responsibility to follow the Furniture and Furnishings (Fire Safety) regulations.

If you have any questions about this, or would like further advice, please contact us.

We are able to treat your fabric with a flame retardant, with this service available for an extra charge. Please note this service may take up to 14 days.

Are your fabrics fire and water resistant?

Our fabrics are not fire resistant as standard but they can be treated for an additional cost. Please contact us.

How much wallpaper do I need to order?

As our wallpaper is printed to order, we always recommend ordering the total number of rolls you need in one go. This way, we can avoid variation between batches as all rolls will be printed as part of the same batch. To work out how many rolls of wallpaper you need for your decorating project, use our wallpaper calculator tool. You’ll find a link to our wallpaper calculator on each wallpaper product page. It’s important that you use the calculator on the product page of the wallpaper you have in mind, as different wallpapers may require different quantities to fill the same area. If you would like help with calculating how many rolls you’ll need, please contact us.

How do I hang my wallpaper?

If you haven’t hung wallpaper before, we’d recommend doing a little research first to ensure you achieve a perfect finish. We’ve created a guide to hanging wallpaper which contains our advice, but please get in touch if you have any questions as our customer care team would love to help.

When do I need to use a lining paper?

Lining paper is recommended when a little help is needed to create an even surface ready to hang your wallpaper. This would usually be when the wall in question has imperfections or blemishes, with the lining paper acting as a smooth surface and allowing your new wallpaper to hang perfectly.

What is your wallpaper made from?

Responsibly sourced from sustainably managed forests, our wallpaper is PVC-free and made from breathable non-woven paper. Created using latex printing, our wallpaper is Greenguard certified. This certification means that our wallpaper is scientifically proven to meet some of the world’s most rigorous third-party chemical emission standards.

Can your wallpaper be used in a bathroom?

The Pure Edit wallpaper can be used in bathrooms and is breathable. We wouldn't however recommend using in areas prone to extreme condensation or damp.

Which paste should I use when hanging the wallpaper?

We recommend using Solvite paste the wall adhesive, which is widely available.

Yes, our low sheen eggshell paint can be used on woodwork and produces a soft sheen finish with added durability.

Is your paint suitable for bathrooms?

Yes, our paint is suitable for bathrooms. Our matt emulsion can be used if your bathroom is well ventilated, with the tougher qualities of our eggshell making it more suitable for more extreme conditions. You can find more information in our help with painting guide.

What is the best way to store paint?

Paint should be kept in a dry, frost-free environment and out of direct sunlight. Make sure the lid is securely closed to prevent air spoiling the paint. Paint should be stored away from food and drink and out of reach from children.

Do I need a primer/undercoat?

If the surface you are painting is in good condition and properly prepared, you usually won’t need a primer or undercoat. However, if the surface is bare or unsound, you should carry out good preparation and apply the appropriate primer. We’ve put together some of our hints and tips in our help with painting guide.

What is the average coverage of paint?

A single coat of matt emulsion or eggshell paint should cover around 10-12 square metres per litre. However, please be aware that there are a number of factors that affect paint coverage, namely the way in which the paint is applied and the porosity of the surface that is being painted.

How long between coats?

We’d always recommend leaving a minimum of 4 hours between coats. If you need any help with your painting project, take a look at our help with painting guide.

How many coats do I need to do?

In most cases, two coats would be needed. However, if you are painting a particularly porous surface or the colour change is dramatic, you may need to apply additional coats. Please see our guide on help with painting.

What’s the difference between Matt Emulsion and Eggshell paint?

Matt emulsion is a pigment-rich paint suitable for walls and ceilings with a soft matt finish, whilst eggshell is a durable paint suitable for interior doors, trim and general woodwork with a subtle sheen. All our paints are water-based and available in both matt emulsion and eggshell finishes.

How do I measure for curtains or blinds?

We've created a handful of easy-to-follow measuring guides that we hope you will find useful. Our curtain measuring guide covers both made to measure and ready-made curtains.

How to measure for curtains

How to measure for blinds

What are your make up and lining standards?

Our made to measure curtains and roman blinds are carefully made in the UK in Lancashire. They are hand finished to your exact size and specification. We have a choice of standard or blackout lining, with or without interlinings. There are a choice of 5 headings for made to measure curtains and if you need anything extra special, or just clarification, please contact us.

What are the benefits of using interlining?

We offer the option of interlining for our made to measure curtains and roman blinds. Interlining is an additional layer of fabric sewn between the curtain fabric and the curtain lining. Interlining offers thermal insulation, noise reduction, reduces sunlight and improves the look and feel of your curtains.

Do your curtains come as a pair or as a single curtain?

All our ready-made curtains are only available as a pair. If ordering made to measure curtains, you have the option of single or a pair.

Will my curtains or blinds have joins?

If your made to measure curtains or blinds are wider than the width of fabric, we will join the widths of fabric together with vertical seams. If your fabric has a pattern, it will be matched across the seams.

What size ready-made curtains do I need?

Our ready-made curtains are sold as pairs and the size that is detailed is the size of each curtain. We recommend that your curtains should be at least one and half the width of your pole or track. For a fuller look, you may want the curtains to be double the width of your track or pole.

Please click into the 'product details' section of the ready-made curtains you have in mind to see our sizing recommendations.

What is the difference between standard lining and blackout lining?

Standard lining provides extra protection to your curtains from direct sunlight and reduces fading. The appearances of your curtain will be enhanced too, with structure and shape being added. While offering the same benefits as our standard lining, our blackout lining also helps to stop light filtering through, making it ideal for use in bedroom curtains.

Are your unlined curtains sold in pairs?

Our ready-made unlined curtains are sold in pairs. We are able to offer made to measure unlined curtains in a handful of our fabrics and these can be supplied as a pair or as a single curtain, depending on your preference. Please contact us if you are interested in made to measure unlined curtains.
